Shoes come in different widths as well as length. Wearing the proper width is crucial to your foot’s comfort. Aaron Marino of alpha m. says that the Brannock Device was utilized by sales associates in the past, but you would be hard-pressed to find one in a shoe store currently.
Most shoes are medium width (D) and a wide shoe is (E) with the widest being (EEEEEE). Shoes go narrower to (C) width. Some brands offer more selection of widths: Timberland, Rockport, Johnston Murphy, Clarks, and Fitzwell.
Additional consideration is your feet swelling during the course of the day. You may need a wider shoe in this case. Next time you are at the mall, go to a department store and find a Brannock Device from the shoe department sale’s associate. Have your foot measured.
