Take the style rule book and toss it today! Aaron Marino of alpha m. is attempting to convince you to abandon your style comfort zone and to get you off of the style sidelines in regard to brown shoes. What do you wear brown shoes with and what do they work with?
Black shoes pretty much go with everything. The black shoe’s second cousion, the brown shoe, comes in many shades which causes difficulty for some. Alpha discusses dark brown and medium brown. Because of the varying degrees of brown, many men have challenges matching brown shoes to outfits.
Dark Brown Shoes
Alpha doesn’t think that brown is a more casual option- it’s more about the style of the shoe. Also, contrast is key to looking polished and put together.
- The dark brown shoe is always appropriate for khaki pants, slacks, and suits. They are in the same color family but significant contrast in shades.
- Dark brown also looks fantastic with jeans.
- Dark brown looks fantastic with navy blue.
- Pair dark brown with light and medium gray, which is popular. You’re taking an ordinary gray suit and upping the style edge with the gray and brown pairing.
- The dark charcoal suit doesn’t look as good because the contrast is not as drastic.
- We can all agree that dark brown and black doesn’t not work!
- Dark brown shoes and dark brown suit / pants looks odd because there’s not enough contrast.
Medium Brown Shoes
Medium brown shoes are Alpha’s go-to shoe when deciding what to pair with an outfit. These shoes work fantastic with all dark brown shoe pairings but better! It adds a bit more style sophistication, including with black. Alpha shares a picture his black suit with medium brown shoes as well as pictures from men’s style resources. If you’re brave enough, here are some rules and tips:
- Match belt with shoes
- Pull something else brown into the outfit: watch, sunglasses, tie, pocket square
- This works with light brown and tan too
