Alpha's #1 lower body exercise is squats. They are one of the two essential exercises for the lower body: core, abs, glutes, hamstrings, calves, and quads. They are tough - and you can use the Smith machine if you want to be safe.

Alpha's #2 lower body exercises is dead lifts. They engage the entire body. If you want to see your body change, incorporate dead lifts into your workout. Proper form is necessary. Start slow and don't worry about impressing anyone! Don't worry about anyone else's workout but yours.
