Supplies needed
- 1/4 c sodium carbonate washing soda
- 2 c salt
- 1 pack fine-grit sandpaper
- Tee shirt (one size larger than typical to allow for shrinkage)
Note about the process
The salt is an abrasive to make the tee shirt look older. The soda breaks-down the tee shirt’s outside layer. The dryer heat weakens the fibers while the sandpaper ages the plastisol logo.
How to do it
- First, mix together the soda and salt.
- Second, set your washing machine at the highest temperature and place the tee shirt(s) in. Put the mix (soda + salt) mix into the wash with your typical detergent after the water comes up beyond the tee shirt(s).
- Third, after the wash is done, high heat dry the tee shirt(s).
- Fourth, create another mix (soda + salt) and repeat the process 3 to 5 times.
- Last, use sandpaper to softly wipe the logo on the tee shirt. Use a circular and uneven motion.
