In this video men's style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro starts by discussing his video about feeling lost. He said that video was a change of pace, and it felt incredible to film. He didn't expect the reception it garnered. He received a lot of 'thank you' emails in response to the raw and open video.
Now another issue has been plaguing him. The term 'selfish' generally has a negative connotation. Well, he is realizing that he needs to be more selfish. Have you ever felt that the world is asking and asking from you? That everyone is wanting something from you? He literally gets thousands of emails needing something from him. Many of the emails are insanely touching and overwhelming. Some are people wanting promotion, and some are addressing business issues. He's started saying 'no' because he's setting boundaries.
Setting and Maintaining Boundaries
Boundaries are sometimes lost. He says sometimes things seep through the cracks. The boundaries have to set-up again. He has to start by not helping as much-- it's a struggle however. He wants to help people; that's why he makes these videos in the first place.
If he were just to answer emails, he could just answer emails all day and still not be done answering them all! He has to stop accepting offers too. He gets asked to be guests on podcasts and be interviewed. The final straw was recently when he felt overwhelmed from going out of town then moving ... then he gets a text message from a guy about PowerPoint presentation for a business speaking engagement. At this point, he feels like he's not getting anything done 'right'.
Lock It Down and Say No
It's time to 'lock it down' and saying 'no' now. He's being selfish. He can't let the world keep taking from him. He says the world will take until there's nothing left. Being selfish is not bad when it comes to your well-being and health. You NEED to be selfish when things get out of hand or overwhelming. No body else will take care of you the way you can. It's okay to be selfish. You deserve it!
