Discretion– you need to use it and your friends tagging you needs to use it. Any picture of you on social media needs discretion. The world can see these pictures and tags, and some of the results can be less than desirable. Everything that you post has a consequence. Anything less than flattering needs to be addressed.
Privacy settings on your end may be tight, but your friends who post or tag may not have as tight. Totally hiding or blocking your profile defeats the purpose of social networking. So if nothing else, you have a public profile picture.
Consistency
People are forming opinions of you based on your profile picture – potential date or job. We all have a brand, and your social networking persona should be in line with the brand you want to present. With LinkedIn, the profile picture needs to look like you’re going on a job interview. And although Facebook and Twitter are less ‘dressed up’, your brand should be consistent. Consistency is the key.
