We all can agree that all men need that one pair of favorite jeans. But finding that perfect pair is easier said than done. During your shopping, you’ve been hearing a lot about raw or dry denim. Today, Aaron Marino of alpha m. discusses raw denim. This video is a denim for dummies.
Alpha talks about how raw denim skips the washing process which a dark fabric is left. The fabric is also harder and drier. He shows an example. They are hard and crunchy to the touch. What’s the big deal? Proper raw denim protocol is that you wear these raw jeans everyday for 6 months to a full year before their first wash.
It’s romantic and salt-of-the-earth stuff. Conceptually, it appeals to Alpha. The whiskering and distressing happens naturally and is a custom pair of jeans. Alpha shows the before and after. You have a beautiful and custom one-of-a-kind jeans. So how do they smell? They STINK! Are these jeans practical for your life. For example, you want a second date with that girl, but you smelled like balls? Perhaps you had a bad case of gas? Your jeans are not a carbon filter.
Here’s the deal- the smell is from bacteria. You can control or eliminate by putting them in a plastic bag and then stick them in the freezer for 5 hours to kill the odor causing bacteria. They’ll still smell like *life*. To deal with that is to hang them and squirt with Febreeze. Let them hang out all day.
Commitment is the raw denim movement. you have to be dedicated to the cause. Alpha is committed to smelling good and wearing clean clothes. But that doesn’t mean raw denim doesn’t work for you. Levi’s, Dickies, The GAP all offer raw denim.
