In this video men’s style, grooming, fitness and lifestyle expert, Aaron Marino of IAmAlphaM, AaronMarino, and Pete & Pedro talks about how he overcame emotional abuse and how he found his voice. He discusses the steps in which he took to move on from his past. He didn’t forgive the assholes who did a number on his self-esteem; however, he accepts them for the role they played in his life because it ultimately allowed Alpha to become a well-rounded individually.

No matter how bad the emotional abuse, it sucks. There is not one thing that constitutes emotional abuse, but if you are hurt emotionally or feel badly or worse emotionally about the relationship you have, you may be someone’s punching bag or being taken advantage of emotionally.

Alpha talks about his step-father yelling at him, and how he didn’t stand up for himself. He was worried about having to move– so he kept everything bottled up inside. Because step-father didn’t get a reaction and knew he could emotionally abuse him, the abuse got worse. Alpha didn’t stand up for himself so his feelings of self-worth deteriorated. His leaving for college was his opportunity to never have anything to do with his step-father ever again. He knew he should have stood up and spoke up for himself, so he beat himself up over it.

When he was a co-owner of the nutrition store, he found himself not being able to speak-up for himself again. He was at an all-time low and sought out counseling. After a year of therapy, Alpha realized that he needed to make a move. Even when he was quitting, his adrenaline was through the roof! It was terrible, but that was one of Alpha’s most proud moments because he took a stand.

Abusers can be anyone! If there is someone in your life that is causing you to feel worse about yourself or treating you poorly, they are emotionally abusing you. You need to get away from them. You deserve to be treated better and get better for yourself. Staying in a toxic relationship is not healthy. Counseling gives the skill set and tools to get healthy.

When Alpha left that job, it was one of the 1st times that he felt great about himself. He’s still a people pleaser, and he always has to battle it. With practice, however, it gets better. Remove yourself from the toxic situations. It’s hard but you deserve to be happy! You can overcome the negativity. You don’t ever get over it, but you cope with it with the tools to be okay. It’s ultimately about deciding to be happy! Despite the shitty things that people did to him from a young age, he is now proud of himself. He knows you can do it too!
