What is Alpha’s opinion of polo shirts? Aaron Marino of alpha m. first describes the ‘T’ shaped shirt with a collar, three button placket, optional pocket, and made of cotton, silk, wool, or synthetics. He also covers how and why the polo shirt was invented starting back in the 18th and 19th centuries. At 3:40, Alpha starts discussing current polo shirts and how a polo is synonymous with business casual.
Polo shirts are more dressy than a screen printed tee shirt but less dressy than a button-up. It can be dressed up or down. It comes in a wide variety of fun colors and patterns. They are incredibly versatile, timeless, and classic. Alpha bets that you, each and every one of you, has some style of polo shirt in your wardrobe.
Alpha can’t stand them, however. He doesn’t like the deformed rolled collar, tight banded sleeves, boxy cut, and less than lush fabric. The collar always looks effed up after a few wash and wears. That band on the sleeve is generally too tight and moves up too far. If it’s not too tight, it’s too loose. The polo is typically boxy for all of those big guys that wear these shirts, and the fabric is weird and not touchably soft.
He does give an alternative version! An updated polo shirt comes in a fitted or slimmer cut shirt. They are also coming in a cotton poly blend or all synthetic. It will hold it’s color longer as a result. These updated polos are more sophisticated and more elegant. Alpha presents updated version.
