Should you buy home fitness equipment such as a treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike? And if you do, what should you look for when selecting cardio equipment? Aaron Marino gives the low-down on home fitness equipment.
But before you get any piece of cardio equipment, make sure you are going to use it. Don’t buy a rack to hang your clothes on.
You have three options for cardio equipment: treadmill, elliptical, and stationary bike. The commercial grade equipment is crazy expensive; however, you can buy consumer grade. The consumer grade may look fancy and have a reasonable price but the quality overall is poor. They are not sturdy, the range-of-motion is horrible, and they feel cheap.
What Aaron suggests to stay away from is the elliptical trainer due to such a poor quality at the consumer grade. The treadmills are a lot better than elliptical at the consumer grade– keep the treadmill selection simple and basic for a longer life. Keep in mind the size of the motor with the treadmill. Select a model with a 2.0 HP or higher as under the 2.0 wears out fast. The stationary bike is a great option but actually getting an effective and beneficial cardio workout is difficult.
