Seven Steps to Earn Respect
Aaron Marino of alpha m. received an email from one of the viewers about respect. The viewer transformed from a ‘hippie rocker’ to a ‘modern, mature man’. He easily gains respect from new people, but he is not getting the respect he wants from people that knew him before the makeover. How does he gain respect back from people that already knew him?
Seven Steps to Earn Respect
- Take pride in your appearance which includes hygiene, grooming, and style.
- Stand up for your beliefs by expressing your true feelings, even when your true feelings are different from your peers.
- Speak respectfully- say please and thankful and clean up your language by not using foul language.
- Think before you react
- Respect others
- Be a man of your word
- Try your best at everything
Eighth Step of Earning Respect
There should be a step 8. Be consistent with all seven steps. Remember, it’s all about image and how you are perceived / received by others. The pre-makeover friends didn’t respect the viewer for some reason because you can be a ‘hippie rocker’ and still gain respect. So there must there must have been something personality-wise that wasn’t the best. People from the past have a vision and perception of that guy from the past. You now have to consistently be this new guy. Over time, they can forget who you were and their perception will change (depending on how much of a jerk you were) as long as you put your best foot forward consistently.
You have to earn the respect- it’s not just because you dress nice and you have nice hair. Even new people won’t respect you if you don’t consistently do things inline with gaining respect. Do you respect yourself? That’s where respect starts. If you feel you are respectable, other people will see that. If you do, you will get it in return but it has to be done consistently. Respect is a two way street.
