The other day Aaron Marino of alpha m. receives an email asking for break-up advice. The viewer wants to know if he can be friends with his ‘ex’. Alpha discusses various break-up scenarios. You know how many ex-girlfriends that Alpha is friends with? Zero. It’s not practical or realistic.
Usually when a break-up occurs, one wants it more than another. You broke up for a reason- you’re not compatible. Being friends is silly because you have enough friends. You don’t need to be friends with someone who you have been intimate with.
But maybe you did maintain a friendship. Is this okay with your new relationship? It’s weird and awkward for the new relationship because questions arise. You have to overcome the probing. Then the stage comes up with the comparing as well as wondering if you are talking to your ‘ex’ (your so-called ‘friend’). Alpha states there is no reason to have a friendship with your ‘ex’. Sure it can happen but it’s not a good idea.
Speaking of friends, Alpha addresses ‘hooking up’ within a peer group. He finds this incredibly sad and ‘not good’. He says we have to respect ourselves, and causal sex has consequences. It can be dangerous: unwanted pregnancies and diseases. You need to think about having sex with anyone who will screw you. You are special, and share yourself with people who respect you. There are consequences of having casual sex with friends as well as being friends with your ‘ex’.
